Certified Performing Arts Executive (CPAE) Program for Presenters and Managers/Agents

Posted on October 20th, 2011

NAPAMA is the North American Association of Performing Arts Managers and Agents.  I was a founding member of NAPAMA in the 1970′s in New York, to promote a collegial  atmosphere for managers and agents to work together to improve working conditions for artists. .  The best description of the organization is in it’s motto:  “A COOPERATIVE VOICE IN A COMPETITIVE BUSINESS’   About to be announced at the NorthWest booking conference is the CERTIFIED PERFORMING ARTS EXECUTIVE (CPAE)  program at the University of  New Orleans, a certification program for agents, managers and presenters.

Although many arts administration programs have existed, this is the first program I know  that includes studies for agents and managers.

Robert Baird of Toronto is President of NAPAMA this year.  For further information, the website is: www.napama.org

- Ann Summers

NAPAMA, Arts Northwest and the University of New Orleans are launching the newly established CPAE Program for both Managers/Agents and Presenters in January 2012. Download Brochure here.

An important step for leaders in all industries, professional certification raises industry standards and builds a platform to better negotiate and build your career success – without the time and expense of a long-term degree. CPAE courses will be taught through UNO’s Graduate Program in Arts Administration both on-line and on site at various conferences.

Whether you’re a leader in the presenting and touring industry, a working or aspiring performing arts manager/agent, a performing arts presenter, a key volunteer, or exploring the field of performing arts management, you’ll increase your capacity to be successful in the field – without the time and expense of a long-term degree – through the Certified Performing Arts Executive (CPAE) Program.  Why should you consider enrolling? Professional certification is an important step in the career track of leaders in all industries. It enhances professional stature. It helps assure peers, your employer or employees, board members, volunteers, customers and the public that you are competent and professional. The CPAE program helps build a platform from which you can better negotiate and build your career success.
