Joan Dornemann, prominent Metropolitan Opera assistant conductor, co-founder of the International Vocal Arts Institute, and highly respected opera coach, will work with singers mainly interested in careers in opera, oratorio or recital in a two-day Encounter, Friday and Saturday, March 27 and 28 at the McLaughlin Studio, courtesy of the Canadian Opera Company, 227 Front Street East, in Toronto.
The “Encounter” will take place over four sessions, each day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2-5 p.m. Membership and sign-up request forms are available here at ircpa.net or by calling 416-362-1422 or e-mailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
With her extensive knowledge of employers’ needs, Ms. Dornemann is able to share with each singer their strengths and weaknesses, in a supportive and collegial environment, and offer various options for a career focus. This information enables the artist to make informed or enlightened decisions as a professional.
These two days are the perfect opportunity for the singer who is unsure whether he or she is ready for important auditions, to gain vital confidence and direction. They also allow emerging coaches or collaborative pianists to develop their skills. The general public is encouraged to observe the preparation required for the advancement of artists they will soon see on major stages.
The cost for singers to participate in the Encounter is $200 for the two days. For observers, one session is $25, or all four for $80. For IRCPA members, the cost to observe is $20 for one session, or $60 for the four. Membership forms can be filled out on the website, ircpa.net/membership. No membership fee is required.
Vocal teachers are invited to attend as guests, but must RSVP to email@example.com.
